This show is dedicated to the people impacted by the Eaton Fire.
Starting as gilded copies of White House portraits, the works of this show, “POWER Obscured”, were masked, manipulated, distressed, and layered to simultaneously obscure and reveal the humanity within, while commenting on the power we, as a people, grant upon select individuals. The new visual voice presents something more complex, more nuanced, and more imperfect, while the emotion, expression, and experimentation reflect the inhumanity of today’s world. These transformed portraits of “power”, along with other related collage pieces, are how I have dealt with these crazy times we find ourselves in.

I find joy in the endless possibilities of creation.

I strive to create emotional, lively, accessible pieces that are spontaneous, random, and highly textured.  I explore my voice through accessing personal energy with ambidextrous mark-making.  Excited by the unexpected and motivated by the what-ifs.

As I activate the surface with marks and washes of acrylic, my intuitive process begins.  I have no plan of how the piece will unfold as I block out the structure subconsciously.  My materials are varied and repurposed.  Random cutting of paper and canvas scraps find their way onto the canvas.
